Daily Current Affairs / AI-Based Monsoon Forecasting Scheme
Category : Science and Tech Published on: December 04 2025
India conducted an AI-driven pilot project to forecast local monsoon onset for Kharif 2025, covering parts of 13 states. The model blended Google’s NeuralGCM, ECMWF’s AIFS, and 125 years of IMD rainfall records to produce probabilistic, location-specific forecasts crucial for deciding sowing dates. These forecasts were delivered via SMS through the M-Kisan portal to over 3.88 crore farmers in five regional languages. Though no financial aid was provided, follow-up surveys in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar showed that 31–52% farmers adjusted their sowing and land preparation decisions based on the AI alerts.
