The 12th Sustainable Mountain Development Summit (SMDS-XII) began at Doon University, Dehradun, organized by the Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI). Uttarakhand Minister Subodh Uniyal highlighted the Himalayas’ role in providing 60% of India’s water and stressed nature-aligned, community-driven development. Keynote speaker Prof. Anil Kumar Gupta emphasized combining science, AI-based disaster management, and traditional knowledge for sustainable mountain development. Around 250 participants, including officials, scientists, and Himalayan farmers, attended. The summit features exhibitions and sessions addressing grassroots issues and will conclude with addresses from Ritu Khanduri and Trivendra Singh Rawat.
