Gujarati to be taught mandatorily in Gujarat schools

  • The Gujarat government has announced that it will move a bill in the upcoming Assembly session making teaching the Gujarati language a compulsory subject in schools across the state. 
  • The move will make teaching the Gujarati language from classes 1 to 8 in all schools functioning in the state mandatory.  
  • The Gujarat High Court urged the Gujarat government to make a law for making the Gujarati language compulsory in the local schools.
  • The Gujarati language will be taught at all schools of all mediums and boards, including those affiliated with central boards.
