Bilateral maritime exercise ‘CARAT’ between Bangladesh and the United States of America begins

  • The Bangladesh Navy (BN) and US military troops are collaborating virtually in the Bay of Bengal for the 27th annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) maritime exercise.
  • The major objectives of ‘CARAT’ is to enhance regional cooperation and build mutual relationships.
  • Since 2011, Bangladesh has been participating in the Naval Caret exercise. This year marks the 27th anniversary of the CARAT exercise.

  • It is a series of annual bilateral military exercises conducted by the United States Pacific Fleet with countries such as Bangladesh, Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Thailand. The exercise is primarily concerned with ASEAN. However, it is also held with non-ASEAN members such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
