Democratic Socialist and New York State Assembly member Zohran Mamdani has made history by winning the New York City mayoral election, becoming the first Muslim and youngest mayor in a century at the age of 34. Born in Uganda and belonging to the South Asian and Muslim community, Mamdani defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
