Democratic Socialist and New York State Assembly member Zohran Mamdani has made history by winning the New York City mayoral election, becoming the first Muslim and youngest mayor in a century at the age of 34. Born in Uganda and belonging to the South Asian and Muslim community, Mamdani defeated former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. His campaign focused on free bus service, rent stabilization, universal childcare, and raising the minimum wage to $30 by 2030, promising deep social and economic reforms.
