The United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution proclaiming 25 May as World Football Day, recognizing the significance of football as a global sport.
The resolution aims to celebrate the essence of football, known as "Jogo Bonito" or the beautiful game, which transcends borders and unites people worldwide.
The chosen date, 25 May, commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first international football tournament held during the 1924 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, symbolizing unity and cooperation among nations through sports.
With over 160 countries co-sponsoring the resolution, the adoption of World Football Day reflects widespread international support for recognizing the cultural and social impact of football.
Starting from 25 May, World Football Day will be celebrated annually, providing an opportunity for fans, players, and communities worldwide to come together in the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
