  • For the first time in Karnataka, a rare species of damselfly called Kesar Reedtail has been observed, which is found in the Western Ghats of India.
  • Scientifically known as Indosticta deccanensis.
  • They were found last year (2024) in the forests along the banks of the Netravati River near Madhugundi village in the Chikmagalur district, known as Indosticta deccanensis. Previously, the damselfly had been observed in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
  • The saffron reedtail is a small damselfly, measuring less than two inches in length, with a cinnamon-colored thorax, delicate and transparent wings, and is part of the Platycnemididae family, known as shadow damselflies.
