  • The painting was purchased by Cyrus S Poonawalla, Chairman of Serum Institute of India, who called it a national treasure and plans to make it available for public viewing periodically.
  • It surpassed previous records set by M.F. Husain’s works.
  • Raja Ravi Varma is credited with introducing European oil techniques to Indian art and making mythological figures accessible through mass-produced prints.
