  • From April 1, 2026, India implemented nationwide rollout of E20 petrol (20% ethanol blended fuel) as per the directives of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. This marks a major step forward from E10 blending and is part of India's National Biofuel Policy aimed at reducing fossil fuel dependence, cutting carbon emissions, and boosting farmers' income through increased ethanol demand.
  • The shift to E20 is also expected to reduce India's crude oil import bill significantly. Automobile manufacturers have been advised to make E20-compatible engines to support the transition.
