He shares a longstanding association with Cannes—his 2004 film Oldboy won the Grand Prix, while Thirst earned the Jury Prize in 2009.   • The Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest honour, was notably won by Parasite in 2019, highlighting South Korea’s cinematic rise. Park succeeds Juliette Binoche, continuing Cannes’ tradition of celebrating global film excellence.
