OpenAI has launched IndQA, a new benchmark to test AI models’ understanding of Indian languages and cultural contexts. Based on 2,278 questions across 12 Indian languages and 10 cultural domains including law, food, religion, sports, and arts IndQA uses expert-designed rubrics for accurate evaluation. The GPT-5 Thinking High model scored the highest at 34.9%, showing strong cultural comprehension. As OpenAI’s first regional benchmark for India, IndQA aims to make AI systems more inclusive, context-aware, and useful for non-English users.
