Indian weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has been announced the winner of the third edition of the “BBC Indian Sportswoman Of The Year award”.
Mirabai Chanu created history in 2021 when she became the first Indian weightlifter to clinch a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
In 2019, Shafali Verma, the youngest female cricketer to play for India in Women's T20 International, was presented with the 'BBC Emerging Player' award.
Apart from this, Karnam Malleswari, the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics in 2000, has also been presented with the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award.
