COP15 to CMS Adds 40 New Species to Protected List

The 15th Conference of Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) has added 40 new species to its protected appendices.
CMS, also known as the Bonn Convention (1979), is a UNEP treaty focused on conserving migratory animals.
The convention covers terrestrial, aquatic, and avian migratory species across national boundaries.
Appendix I provides strict protection to endangered species; Appendix II promotes international cooperation.
The decision highlights global concern over habitat loss, climate change, and threats to migratory species.
It strengthens coordinated conservation efforts among range states for better biodiversity protection.
