  • Indian weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has been announced the winner of the third edition of the “BBC Indian Sportswoman Of The Year award”. 
  • Mirabai Chanu created history in 2021 when she became the first Indian weightlifter to clinch a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
  • In 2019, Shafali Verma, the youngest female cricketer to play for India in Women's T20 International, was presented with the 'BBC Emerging Player' award.
  • Apart from this, Karnam Malleswari, the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics in 2000, has also been presented with the BBC Lifetime Achievement Award.
