  • Tokyo Olympics gold medallist, Neeraj Chopra, is being selected as one of the six nominees for the 2022 Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award.
  • Neeraj Chopra is the third Indian player after cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and wrestler Vinesh Phogat to be nominated for the award.
  • Vinesh Phogat was nominated in the World Sporting Comeback category for 2019, while Sachin Tendulkar won the award for Best Sporting Moment in the Last 20 Years in 2020.
  • Neeraj Chopra has won the gold medal in the men's javelin sport at the Tokyo Olympics.
  • The winners will be revealed in April, following a vote by the Laureus World Sports Academy, the world’s ultimate sports jury, made up of 71 of the greatest sporting legends of all time.
  • The Laureus World Sports Awards is an annual award given annually. Throughout the year, players and teams who have achieved exceptional performance in the sports venue are honored. The award was instituted in 1999 by Daimler and Richemont, founders of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
