National Legal Services Day is observed annually on November 9 to commemorate the enactment of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, which came into force in 1995. The Act established the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and a three-tier legal aid system to provide free and competent legal services to marginalized and economically disadvantaged citizens. Celebrations include legal aid camps, awareness drives, and Lok Adalats to promote access to justice. Between 2022–2025, over 44 lakh people benefited, reflecting India’s commitment to justice, equality, and “Access to Justice for All.”
