Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov created history by becoming the youngest-ever FIDE World Cup Champion, defeating China’s Wei Yi in the tiebreak finals of the 2025 World Cup held in Goa. The month-long event featured 206 players. Russian GM Andrey Esipenko secured third place and a Candidates berth after beating Nodirbek Yakubboev 2–0. The ceremonial first move was made by India’s GM Dibyendu Barua. With this event over, focus now shifts to the 2025 Rapid and Blitz Championships in Doha.
