NASA and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) are preparing to launch the world's first wooden satellite into orbit. This satellite, called Lignosat, is in the shape of a coffee mug and will be launched into Earth's orbit by the summer of 2024.
This wooden satellite has been constructed by researchers from Kyoto University. This satellite has a diameter of about 10 centimeters and weighs about 330 grams.
This satellite is made of magnolia wood, which has been found to be very stable and resistant during tests.
The main purpose of lignosat is to serve as a common and specialized medium in space for scientific research.
