Category : Science and Tech Published on: November 14 2025
ISRO successfully tested the main parachute of the Gaganyaan mission’s crew module at the Babina Field Firing Range in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The complex system, comprising ten parachutes of four different types, ensures a safe landing by sequentially deploying apex cover, drogue, pilot, and main parachutes. A simulated crew module weighing 2.5 tons was dropped from an Indian Air Force IL-76 at 2.5 km altitude, including a scenario with delayed main parachute deployment. The test was successful, marking a crucial step toward India’s first human spaceflight, scheduled for January 2026.
