Indian Railways has strengthened its AI-based safety framework to protect wildlife in forest and elephant corridor regions. AI-enabled cameras and Distributed Acoustic Systems detect animal movement near tracks and alert loco pilots up to 500 metres in advance. Initially implemented over 141 km in the Northeast Frontier Railway, the system is being expanded to cover 1,122 route kilometres. The initiative aims to reduce collisions involving elephants and other wildlife, promoting safer train operations and sustainable infrastructure development.
