Nagauri Paan Methi Registered as Community Farmers' Variety

PPVFRA officially registered 'Nagauri Paan Methi' (Trigonella corniculata L.) as a Community Farmers' Variety.
The announcement appeared in the February 2026 issue of the Plant Variety Journal, granting legal protection to Nagaur farmers.
The application was represented by Geeta Devi, a woman farmer and Pradhan of Panchayat Samiti in Mundwa, Rajasthan.
Registration protects against biopiracy, spurious seeds, and entitles farmers to benefit-sharing from commercial use of the variety.
2026 is declared the International Year of Women Farmers by FAO, adding significance to the recognition.
The variety may receive a GI tag in future, correcting misidentification as 'Kasuri Methi' and boosting export potential.
