Recently, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi paid homage to soldiers who lost their lives during Operation Pawan, marking the first official commemoration of the 1987 mission in Sri Lanka. Conducted from October 7–26, 1987, the operation saw hundreds killed and over a thousand injured while countering LTTE militants. The ceremony honored veterans, including Param Vir Chakra recipient Major R. Parameswaran, and was attended by Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh. Operation Pawan remains a pivotal chapter in India’s military and diplomatic history in the region.
