  • The Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) has secured a patent for the e-Crop, an IoT device developed for smart farming. This device simulates crop growth in real-time based on weather, soil moisture, and nutrient status, providing valuable insights for farmers to optimize resource management and enhance crop productivity.
  • The e-Crop calculates nutrient and water requirements for crops on a daily basis and generates agro-advisories accordingly. By utilizing real-time data, it offers periodical advice to growers via SMS, helping them make informed decisions regarding irrigation scheduling and fertilizer application to ensure optimal crop health and yield.
  • An important aspect of the e-Crop device is its generic nature, allowing it to be adapted to various field crops. Efforts are underway in collaboration with state agriculture departments, ICAR institutes, academic institutions like IIT-Palakkad and Digital University Kerala, and research organizations such as the Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII), Kottayam, to customize and implement the device for different agricultural contexts.
