In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gyanesh Kumar was appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner, who is an IAS officer of the 1988 batch from the Kerala cadre; this is the first appointment under the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Act, 2023.
