The Government of India has granted Geographical Indication (GI) registration to two traditional Lepcha musical instruments Tungbuk and Pumtong Pulit recognizing their cultural significance. The GI certificates were presented during the 1st Tribal Business Conclave in New Delhi. Tungbuk, a three-string instrument, and Pumtong Pulit, a bamboo flute, are vital to Lepcha folk music. The registration preserves their heritage, promotes artisan livelihoods, and encourages younger generations to learn these instruments.
