The Assam government has approved a ₹50 crore grant to restore and preserve the heritage of the Darrang kings of the Koch dynasty, announced during Mahabir Chilarai Divas celebrations on 2 February 2026. The project will restore royal monuments and cultural landmarks, with immediate implementation ordered by the Chief Minister. The initiative aims to honour the Koch dynasty’s historic role in shaping Assam’s political and cultural identity while boosting tourism and heritage pride.
