Arunachal Pradesh’s iconic handcrafted ‘dao’, forged by tribal blacksmiths using age-old techniques, has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, marking a significant boost for the state’s indigenous craftsmanship. The recognition highlights the cultural heritage, identity and skilled artistry embodied in each blade. Officials say the GI tag will enhance market access, support authentic production and strengthen livelihoods of tribal artisans. With this addition, Arunachal Pradesh now holds 20 GI-tagged products, reflecting its rich traditional knowledge systems.
