Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have announced that Aadhaar will no longer be accepted as proof of birth or date of birth. UP’s Planning Department clarified that Aadhaar is not linked to birth records, while Maharashtra cancelled all Aadhaar-based birth certificates issued after the 2023 amendment to the Births and Deaths Registration Act. Both states have introduced strict verification guidelines to curb document fraud and ensure only authentic birth certificates are validated, alongside tighter checks on illegal residents.
