Every year on October 29th, World Stroke Day is commemorated to make a commitment to minimise the worldwide burden of stroke, organise campaigns, and raise awareness at the global, regional, and local levels.
Stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when the blood supply to a part of the brain is severely reduced, resulting in damage to brain tissue. It affects a person's appearance, speech, vision and physical functioning.
The Theme of World Stroke Day 2021 is ‘Minutes can save lives’
The annual event was started in 2006 by the World Stroke Organization (WSO) and the WSO declared stroke a public health emergency in 2010.
WSO World Stroke Day on October 29 was established in 2004 at the World Stroke Congress in Vancouver, Canada.
