Sri Lanka's first Test captain Bandula Waranpura dies at 68

  • At the age of 68, Bandula Warnapura, who captained Sri Lanka in their first ever test match against England in 1982, died.
  • Warnapura batted first for Sri Lanka and played in four tests and 12 one-day internationals for the country.
  • He not only captained Sri Lanka in its first Test match against England in February 1982, but he also faced the first ball and scored the first run for the island nation.
