Sudhir Kakar, known as the "Father of Indian Psychology," passed away on April 22, 2024, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy that bridged Western and Eastern thought.
Born in 1938 in Nainital, Uttarakhand, Kakar's life and work contributed significantly to the field of psychoanalysis in India, exploring the complexities of human behavior and culture.
Kakar authored numerous books and articles, delving into the intersection of psychoanalysis with Indian culture, mythology, and religion, challenging traditional Western approaches and offering unique insights into the Indian psyche.
Beyond his scholarly pursuits, Kakar was also an accomplished table tennis player and a prolific fiction writer, with notable works including "The Seeker" and "A Book of Memory."
