  • प्रख्यात असमिया कवि नीलमणि फूकन को 56वें ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया, जिसका समारोह पहली बार असम में आयोजित किया गया था।
  • उपन्यासकार बीरेंद्र कुमार भट्टाचार्य (1979) और ममोनी रईसम गोस्वामी (2000) के बाद ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार पाने वाले फूकन तीसरे असमिया कवि हैं।
  • नीलमणि फूकन ने अपने कविता संग्रह 'कोबीता' के लिए 1981 में साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार जीता है। उन्हें 1990 में पद्मश्री और 2002 में साहित्य अकादमी फैलोशिप से सम्मानित किया गया था।
