Neera Tandon, an Indian-American policy expert and a trusted assistant to US Vice President Joe Biden, has been nominated White House staff secretary.
Tanden has been a senior adviser to the president at the White House since May.
Tanden will succeed Jessica Hertz, the White House staff secretary, who announced her intention to resign recently.
