Jal Jeevan Mission Faces Major Complaints: Uttar Pradesh Tops

On December 4, 2025, the Ministry of Jal Shakti reported 17,036 complaints under the Jal Jeevan Mission, with 84% (14,264) from Uttar Pradesh, highlighting issues of poor quality work and financial irregularities in rural piped water projects. Actions have been taken against 621 officials, 969 contractors, and 153 third-party agencies. While 81% of rural households have tap connections, gaps in regular water supply persist. The government plans digital monitoring, AI-based inspections, and blacklisting to ensure accountability and improve implementation.
