US and Israel Launch Strikes on Iran, Target Top Leadership

  • The United States and Israel have conducted coordinated strikes on Iran, targeting key political and military figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian. Israel called its campaign “Operation Lion’s Roar”, while the US named its part “Operation Epic Fury”. Military facilities in Kermanshah, Qum, Isfahan, Tabriz, Karaj, and the naval base at Kenarak were hit.
  • Explosions were reported across multiple cities, and Iran responded with missile strikes targeting US and Israeli installations, sharply escalating tensions in West Asia. Several senior commanders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were reportedly killed, while Khamenei was moved to a secure location.
  • US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu justified the strikes as measures to neutralize imminent threats and signal political pressure on Iran. Analysts warn that attempts at regime change could destabilise the Gulf, disrupt energy markets, and trigger internal conflict, making the situation a high-stakes gamble for both Washington and Tel Aviv.
