Indian Air Force approves production of 200 Astra Mark-1 missiles to Bharat Dynamics Limited

  • The Indian Air Force has given approval to India Dynamics Limited (BDL) for production of 200 Astra Mark 1 air-to-air missiles, which are developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
  • The Astra Mark 1 missiles will be produced under the Rs 2,900 crore project, which was approved by the Defence Acquisition Council in 2022-23.
  • The missiles produced will be integrated into the Russian Su-30 and the indigenous LCA Tejas fighters, and a range of 130 km is being considered for testing the Mark II, while testing and development of a missile with a range of 300 km is also planned.
