Gyan Bharatam Mission – India's Manuscript Heritage Initiative

  • Gyan Bharatam is a flagship Ministry of Culture initiative announced in Union Budget 2025-26 to preserve India's manuscript heritage.
  • The Standing Finance Committee sanctioned Rs. 491.66 crore for the period 2025–2031 for manuscript-related activities.
  • Components include survey, registration, documentation, conservation, digitization, and publication of manuscripts.
  • ASI uses advanced technologies like LiDAR, GPR, and Drone surveys at key sites including Rajgir, Rakhigarhi, and Warangal Fort.
  • The Adopt A Heritage 2.0 program (launched September 2023) engages private/public entities to improve visitor amenities at protected monuments.
  • The National Archives of India's Abhilekh-Patal portal hosts 0.73 crore reference media and 18.23 crore+ pages as of February 2026.
