Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary notified as Tamil Nadu’s 17th Wildlife Sanctuary

The Tamil Nadu government notified 68,640 hectares Reserve Forest area as 'Cauvery South Wildlife Sanctuary' in Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri districts.
The newly notified sanctuary is the 17th Wildlife Sanctuary in the state.
Tamil Nadu government notified the sanctuary after an announcement on April 25. The announcement said that the forest area in Anchetty, Urigam and Jawalagiri ranges spread across 478 sq km will be declared as a wildlife sanctuary.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu government notified Slender Loris Sanctuary.
The state government notified the establishment of the Kadavur Slender Loris sanctuary under Section 26 A(1)(b) of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
