खगोलविदों ने अंतरिक्ष के माध्यम से कम से कम 16 मिलियन प्रकाश वर्ष तक फैली सबसे बड़ी रेडियो आकाशगंगा की खोज की है।
इस नई आकाशगंगा जिसका नाम अलसीओनस है, अब तक ज्ञात सबसे बड़ा रेडियो आकाशगंगा है।
इसका नाम अलसीयोनस आकाश के ग्रीक आदिम देवता ओरानोस के पुत्र से लिया गया है।
इस रेडियो आकाशगंगा के केंद्र में रहने वाले एक सुपरमैसिव ब्लैक होल द्वारा छोड़े गए विशाल प्लम का अध्ययन करने के बाद इस आकाशगंगा के आकार का पता चला है।
इस आकाशगंगा की खोज लो-फ़्रीक्वेंसी एरे (LOFAR) जो की दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा रेडियो टेलीस्कोप नेटवर्क से किया गया है।
