Alka Mittal becomes first woman Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC

  • Alka Mittal has been named as the first woman Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the government-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
  • Alka Mittal, ONGC's director of human resources, has been given extra responsibility as the company's CEO.
  • She will serve in the capacity for six months or until a permanent appointment is announced, whichever comes first.
  • Former ONGC Chairman Shashi Shankar stepped down on March 31, 2021. After that the then former Director (Finance) Subhash Kumar was given the chairmanship.
  • He retired on 31 December 2021 and Alka Mittal has been given additional responsibility on 3 January 2022.
