  • Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer of 1987 batch TV Somanathan has been appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary, who will take up his charge from 30 August 2024.
  • TV Somanathan, a 1982-batch IAS officer of Jharkhand cadre, will replace Rajiv Gauba, the current Cabinet Secretary.
  • The Cabinet Secretary heads the Committee of Secretaries to the India Government and the officer holding this position has to play a key role on issues such as administrative advice, coordination between ministries and national security.
