  • World Food Day is celebrated all over the world on October 16. It is an initiative by the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations.
  • This day is dedicated to combating global hunger and working toward a world free of hunger.
  • The FAO, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the World Food Programme will lead the World Food Day commemorations this year (WFP). According to the United Nations, events will be held in 150 countries throughout the world with different partners and governments.
  • "Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow" is the theme for this year.
  • Dr. Pal Romany, the former Hungarian minister of agriculture and food, proposed the creation of World Food Day in November 1979.
