  • Every year on June 5, people, communities, and organisations from all over the world come together to celebrate World Environment Day to raise awareness of and take action on urgent environmental challenges.
  • The United Nations General Assembly founded World Environment Day in 1972 to increase public awareness of environmental challenges and encourage action.
  • It has since grown to be the largest global venue for environmental advocacy and is observed every year on June 5.
  • The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which took place in Stockholm, Sweden, from June 5–16, 1972, is where World Environment Day got its start.
  • The Theme of World Environment Day 2023 is “Solutions to plastic pollution”.
