The Ministry of Education has granted ‘Deemed to be University’ status to NCERT on the recommendation of UGC.
This will give NCERT greater academic autonomy to launch PhD programmes and advanced research in school education.
NCERT can now design innovative courses and play a stronger role in curriculum development and teacher training.
Established in 1961, NCERT develops textbooks, conducts educational research, and advises governments on education policy.
The move aims to transform NCERT into a research-driven institution to improve quality of school education in India.
