  • The United Nations General Assembly had approved the proposal to celebrate this day in the year 2007.
  • Diabetes is a long-term disease that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.
  • This increases the amount of glucose in the blood.
  • This condition is called hyperglycaemia.
  • According to the report of International Diabetes Foundation, 78 lakh people will die due to diabetes in the year 2022.
  • Whereas in the year 2022, 53.7 crore people are suffering from diabetes.
  • This number will cross 65 crores in the year 2030.
  • The theme of World Diabetes Day for the year 2023 is 'Access to Diabetes Care'.
