Vijay Diwas, observed annually on 16 December, commemorates India’s decisive victory over Pakistan in the 1971 Indo-Pak War and the creation of Bangladesh. In 2025, the nation marks the 54th anniversary of this historic triumph. The war lasted 13 days (3–16 December 1971) and ended with the surrender of approximately 93,000 Pakistani soldiers in Dhaka. India’s victory, guided by PM Indira Gandhi and military leaders Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora, exemplifies strategic leadership, humanitarian commitment, and regional strength.
