  • The Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE coronavirus vaccine has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for children aged 5 to 11 years, making it the first COVID-19 shot for young children in the United States.
  • Only a few other countries, including China, Cuba, and the United Arab Emirates, have approved COVID-19 vaccines for children this age or younger.
  • In the United States, approximately 58 percent of the population is fully vaccinated, trailing other countries such as the United Kingdom and France.
  • In May, the United States began administering the vaccine to adolescents aged 12 to 17.
