  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a new portal named ‘CU-Chayan’ for faculty appointments in central varsities. 
  • The portal was launched on May 2, 2023 by Professor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar,Chairman, UGC.
  • The portal will offer a range of features including a consolidated listing of job openings across all participating universities.
  • The applicant can also search for jobs using various filters like university name, location, designation, category, subject, type of employment, experience, education level, among others.
  • For universities, the platform will provide real-time tracking of applications, customised admin dashboards, and configurable advertisement rules.
  • The CU-Chayan portal has been developed in consultation with the VCs of all CUs.
  • University Grants Commission (UGC) came into existence in 1953.
  • It became a statutory Organization of the Government of India by an Act of Parliament in 1956.
  • Its functions are coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of teaching, examination and research in university education.
