Typhoon Ragasaa, the strongest tropical cyclone of 2025, struck southern China’s Yangjiang city after causing 17 deaths and 17 missing in Taiwan. In Taiwan’s Hualien County, floods from an overflowing barrier lake affected many areas, with residents reporting inadequate warnings. In Hong Kong, heavy rains and strong winds flooded streets and beaches, canceled flights, and forced emergency shelter openings. Guangdong province issued a red storm surge warning as the storm moves toward Maoming city, a major oil refining hub.
