  • Sikkim has celebrated its 48th State Day on 16th May 2023.
  • It was on 16th May, 1975 that the erstwhile kingdom became part of India as its 22nd state.
  • It marks the day in 1975 when Sikkim transitioned to become the 22nd state of India from being a monarchy earlier.
  • The Indo-Sikkimese treaty was signed in the year 1950.
  • With this, Sikkim became a protectorate of India.
  • Before this, the Namgyal dynasty ruled Sikkim till 1975.
