Sikkim has celebrated its 48th State Day on 16th May 2023.
It was on 16th May, 1975 that the erstwhile kingdom became part of India as its 22nd state.
It marks the day in 1975 when Sikkim transitioned to become the 22nd state of India from being a monarchy earlier.
The Indo-Sikkimese treaty was signed in the year 1950.
With this, Sikkim became a protectorate of India.
Before this, the Namgyal dynasty ruled Sikkim till 1975.
